1.  Sorry it’s Wednesday and not Tuesday, but I was getting caught up a bit yesterday!  YAY!

2.  Boudoir dates that are still available: June 13 : 11am and 7:30 or 8pm (we can push it up if you want to go out still!)  July 12 : 9am and 7pm.  Cost is $200 and includes an album, email if you’re interested!

3.  My June girls, I’m still working on that hotel, I’ve narrowed it down to 2, one being my standby and another a new one but both are downtown, I will let you know when it’s all final!

4.  I’m about to make 3 blog posts after this one.

5.  Puppies are hard work.

6.  I bought another lens today, I think I’m finished….at least that’s what I say now!

7.  What’s in my bag? : D700, D300, 24-70 f/2.8, 17-55 f/2.8, 70-200 f/2.8, 50 f/1.8, 85 f/1.8, 10.5 f/2.8 fisheye (love this lens!), 12-24 f/2.8 (new!), 50 f/2.8 macro (for awesome ring shots), 3 sb-800 flashes, 3 pocketwizards (these are for off camera at receptions and portraits), over 80GB of compactflash cards, lots of rechargable batteries (I use the eneloop brand), and I think that’s it!  I don’t carry this all around with me to every session but it does come with me to weddings!

8.  I have the cutest puppy ever (and yes that’s my foot):

9.  Again, crazy month, I can’t wait for June!!

10.  Check back on Sunday, something may be going on….just sayin’

1.  Woot, I remembered and got it in on time!  May is insane for me, so if I take a day or two to respond to an email, don’t stress!  If you’re on day 2 though and need an answer stat, just call me!

2.  ::whew::  I found out I had an affinity for mudding drywall, not something I wanted to know!

3.  All photographers should have a good chiropractor!  The amount of weight I put on my shoulders is insane!

4.  It’s going to be a busy time for me!  I had 2 boudoir sessions and an awesome wedding this past weekend, but man, I am WIPED!

5.  We get the puppy on Friday!!  So I’m busy prepping the house for that!

Spinoff of 10 on Tuesday!   Sorry, didn’t get to it yesterday, I was WAY too busy and am very tired!  If you’re waiting on me for something whether it’s proofs or what not, no fear!  I’m getting to all of it in order!

We’re finishing our basement and apparently I have an affinity for mudding drywall, who knew?!  So I’ve been doing that!  And last night I sanded and mudded for 3.5 hours without dinner and realized it was 9:30.  UGH.  Just want this over with!

If you seen my website it says there’s new pricing for 2010 in place, if you’re curious: www.karaschultz.com/pricing

and I’m still working on the blog switch but I am getting on a new header!  I have a bunch of things that I have to get done for clients first, and my office being in shambles for a week really put me behind!

I have a wedding this week, so you’ll be seeing some more pictures, and it’s going to be a SUPER cool one!!

And last but not least, we got the puppy and passed our home inspection!  (which really means we’re  not crazy people).  I’ll post pictures ASAP, I promise!

That’s really it, don’t forget about boudoir pictures if you are a fall bride, get in on my July session!  And there’s still some room in June!  OH and Fredericks of Hollywood has some great stuff that’s pretty inexpensive!  I also saw some at Forever 21 and H&M, not large selections but inexpensive :)

So yeah, that’s “the week in Kara”

I have a session to post tomorrow!

Until next time,

Kar

2. I hope you enjoy that I keep up on this blog pretty frequently! I have some pictures to post later today and will have a wedding later this week!

3. We’re getting a puppy! In early May, we got her from a rescue :)

4. And yes, I will take millions of pictures of her!

5. My foot is getting better! Thanks for all the well wishes!

6. Want a boudoir session, yes? See post below this one :)

7. May is going to be an INSANE month. There will be lots of posts and there’s at least one wedding every weekend!

8. It’s tuesday, wish it was Friday!

9. Are you following me on Twitter? You should, you’ll get all the good updates!

10. AND THE WINNERS! I’ll be emailing you too!

For the gallery mount (did I mention this was a $100 value??)

Was Number 5, Nora! (I used random.org for the generation, I’m bad at CSS coding, forgive me, I know you want to know before I figured it all out!)

For the FREE session

Was Number 4, Beth! (same deal as above, I promise I’m honest!!)

Congrats to both of you and I’ll be emailing you!

1.  If I’m MIA for a few days, forgive me!  I’m not going to be attached to my email 24/7 because I’ll be at home, doing some MAJOR spring cleaning and getting the electrical put in our basement!  YAY.

2.  I have some pictures, need to make post.  Probably later today.

3.  Remember how I talked about new pricing, well, it may be coming sooner rather than later, I think it’ll be a good thing!

4.  I’m no longer accepting any 2009 weddings, I just don’t think it can happen without me going crazy.  I just want to give all the couple’s what they deserve and I can’t do that if I’m driving myself batty!

5.  Are you getting married in 2010?  Contact me!!  I’m starting to fill up!

6.  Some new package design is coming…get excited!!

7.  I think I hurt my foot.  I’m going to the podiatrist this afternoon.  May have to cut back on some sessions :(

8.  Follow me on twitter: karaschultz (shameless plug every week!)

9.  Easter candy does not a lunch make.

10.  I will no longer be offering individual boudoir sessions, all sessions will be in marathon format! And after the July one, prices will go up!  I promise a marathon post later this week…promise!

2.  lots of boudoir sessions the past week!  4!  but there won’t be a preview!

3.  I’m totally loving the new camera!  Love it!!

4.  Still in search of a good electrician, anyone?

5.  hopefully I’ll have a new blog design up later this week!!  We can only hope!

6.  I’ll be out of town from Friday-Sunday so if I’m not answering immediate emails that’s why!  Call me if it’s an photo-emergency ;)

7.  Do you have a 2010 wedding?  You should contact me if you’re interested!  I’m starting to book more and more… (and you’d get me before prices raise!)

8.  I love poke cake.  It’s awesome.  My mom is making it for Easter for us!  On my suggestion!  I’ll take pictures and post, don’t worry!!

9.  Puppy fever is still in full force!  I want a puppy!!

10.  This will be another post but marathon dates for boudoir sessions are going to be June 14 (downtown, almost full, 1 session time left, possibly be doing June 13) and July 12 (pretty open!  would be good for august/september/october brides!)

10b. oh and I have 2 web addresses now:  my original: karaschultz.com and my name now: www.karaschultz.com  I realized that some people may find it hard to spell if they were giving it out to their friends, so I bought another, please still use my kara@karaschultz address!   Same website, just 2 domains :)

That is all.  Kar

March 24, 2009

Tis the season for engagement pictures and I’m often asked some advice on what to do and where to go, so here’s some tips!

1. Clothing: wear what you are comfortable in and what you want your pictures to look like. Are you really casual? Then jeans and a nice shirt will do. Do you want them more dressy? I suggest a nice casual dress or skirt and at least a button down shirt for guys.

2. More on clothing: I suggest not to wear anything with big logos, you don’t want to look like an advertisement! Try to wear complementary items but not too matchy matchy, so you don’t both have to wear black polo shirts :) Try and bring out your personality with your clothing. Large prints aren’t always good on both people, but if everything else is pretty simple, go for the print! You can always bring a change of clothing or email what you’re thinking so I can help you decide. If one person is wearing a big print, the other needs to wear something solid.

3. Clothing for the boys: I suggest either a polo shirt or a button down shirt or a sweater (depending on the season, you could layer these items!). They look sharp whether you’re wearing jeans or dress pants. I highly suggest nice shoes for the boys, usually casual dress, in some cases tennis shoes work but I’m just generalizing for your benefit!

4. Clothing for girls: beware too much cleavage! I know the pains but just make sure the goods aren’t out like you’re hitting up the clubs later, you’ll probably be giving these pictures as gifts or on save the dates and you don’t want your mom commenting on it (or worse, your mother in law!). Wear something you’re comfortable in like I said before, your engagement pictures are not a time to decide to try a new trendy fashion statement. Make those statements with jewelry instead.

5. Shoes: wear something comfortable, we’ll be walking anywhere from 1-3 miles during your engagement session! If you want to wear heels in your pictures, make sure they’re comfortable or bring an extra change of shoes that are easy to get on and off (flip flops, slides, ballet slipper type shoes). You have time to slip them off and on before I set up the shots :)

6. Make up: Even if you don’t wear makeup, wear a little for your shoot. I suggest these key items: mascara (it’s a little pricey at around $18 a bottle but Too Faced has awesome mascara!! and it lasts a long time!), lip gloss with a small tint (do this to define your lips and not have them blend with your face, doesn’t have to be bold, just subtle!), and finally blush (give those cheeks a small amount of red! Unless it’s going to be cold out when we do this, then you get it naturally!). Ideally, you want your make up a touch darker than what you wear day to day, but not over the top for engagement pictures (boudoir is a different story!).

7. Accessories are your friend: maybe that’s a bright shirt under your black shirt (Jason and Traycie did that for his shirt to give it a little more umfph!), or with some funky color shoes with simple black or brown tops, or even some chunky jewelry that you want to wear to spice it up. Your accessories are probably going to be the thing that may make your outfit a little more special, try on your outfits and look in the mirror to see if you need something more, if you’re questioning it, you’re probably right ;) But remember you can always EMAIL ME for advice :)

8. How this is going to work: I may set up some shots for you that are nice and pretty standard things that I do, there will be other times that I’ll tell you just to have fun or do something crazy. I welcome ANY crazy idea that you have and may have more for you than you think! Just relax, I try and make this pretty enjoyable (and most of the people say it’s painless!). I’m fun, you’re fun, this will be fun. Don’t worry if you think it’s something dorky or silly, I’m so down for it as a self-proclaimed dork. :) And I only break the law sometimes if you want to jump in a fountain.

9. RELAX. I’m there to make sure that you get good pictures, you don’t have to worry about that, just smile and laugh during your session to get feeling natural, at first it’s a bit tough, I know, but we’ll get there! Just don’t worry about the shots, that’s my job :)

10. And lastly, some things that are always welcomed: shots you like (can be brought up at the session), props (always fun!), clothing changes (as long as there’s a bathroom it’s fine with me!), any questions you have, location advice (I’m happy to pick if you’re willing to drive anywhere!).

And finally, please call if you’re running behind! I’m usually there early :) and just hoping everything is fine, but after 15 minutes I get a bit weary (I’m a worrier about it!). I completely understand if traffic is bad or parking is an issue! I deal with it daily so I’m not going to hold it against you at all! :D

So that’s it for today’s 10 on tuesday, hope this was more informative for you!!

Until next time, I have some engagement pictures to show off! (told you it was the season!)

March 3, 2009

For today’s version, I got my friends to ask me questions to answer!! So here’s some:

1. Krystal -What has been your biggest splurge since you started photography?

I would say that my one thing that I didn’t really NEED was my fisheye lens but it’s so much fun that I just had to have it!! I really only get things that are necessary and not all the time fun, like quickbooks, what fun huh!?

2. Andrea – What is your horoscope for today?

According to astrology.com – You’re talking up big issues with your people today and that is helping you to shake out the bad ideas from the huge mass of good ones you’ve been sitting on. Soon it’s time to act on the best!

And from horoscope.com – Money matters look solid, and luck-inducing influences in the earlier part of the day are likely to pave the way for you to earn a little more. However, you might find that the afternoon is slightly more time-pressured: social plans or even shopping plans may need to be put on hold, thanks to a work related development!

3. Jen – what are your favorite photo shoots to take?

I LOVE trash the dress type things, it’s so much fun! And not having to worry about one drop of mud or anything really is fun! I find that many girls have so much fun during it and so do the guys!

4. Krystal – How many more seasons of ANTM will you watch?

Um, how long will the show last?! That’s how many. I love America’s Next Top Model!! (and a lot of other random bad reality tv…)

5. Andrea – If you won a free vacation to anywhere in the world and had to leave tomorrow, where would you go?

um, can I pick a million places?! I would love to go back to Morocco, this time armed with the proper photo equipment! Such amazing architecture there! I would also love to go to the French countryside and Ireland. So I don’t know, depends on who’s coming with me, the hubby or my friends? I guess that really is what matters!!

6. Cassie – What is your first childhood memory?

Oh man, I don’t remember!! I know, I know, I’m thinking hard, I have a bad memory in that part of my life, but a lot of stuff within the past 10 years I can definitely remember! I do remember my dad always playing Thriller on the record player in our basement that had sweet burnt orange or green carpet, I don’t remember whether that was upstairs or downstairs! But yeah, I remember Thriller being played mainly because that song creeps me out!

7. Tori – what’s your favorite trashy reality show

Oh, I hate to admit this, but I LOVE the Rock of Love Bus tour.  I started watching it the first time around and I tell you it’s the same every time but I can’t look away from that trainwreck!  Oh, it’s so much fun!!  And there’s always a few sane ones on there that you have to pull for!!  Though, I don’t think he really wants love, if you know what I mean.  So yeah, that’s kind of not fun to admit!  Though I also love the Real Housewives of Orange County and NY!   So much fun!!

8. Andrea – If your house was on fire and you could only grab three things before you left, what would those things be?

My husband (he’d need coaxing…), camera bag (you don’t want to know how much is in that), and purse. My life lives in my purse and I can’t possibly want to start all over getting those items again, it was hard enough changing my name on all that stuff!!

9. Krystal – How can I buy your pretty flower pictures??

Email me! I’m working on some more as well, I love my macro lens!

10. Christina – would you be a tiger or a bunny and why?

I love the randomness of my friends…Let’s go with…tiger! I’d rather be the hunter than the hunted. While the bunnies are cute, they’re lifespan is not as long, considering one bunny got stuck in our window well, and well, David didn’t get it out in time, poor bunny….so yeah, I guess that’s my answer. And I don’t like eating vegetables very much so that really seals the deal!

Thanks for the help girls! That was entertaining to say the least!

And here’s a few of the things I’m working on…

From Kristen and Matt’s reception:

And from Tracey and Brian’s:

Keep your eye out for more updates SOON!!

Until next time,

Kar
