This was an absolutely fun wedding! Amy and Orin are completely laid back, wonderful people who just wanted a low stress fun wedding day! Despite it being a bit warm, rain off and on and all of us forgetting about the air and water show in Lincoln Park, it was perfect! I even drove them to their ceremony
Yes, now I’m also transportation, there’s many perks to hiring me! Ha! Amy and Orin’s ceremony and reception were at PhoViet, a fusion restaurant that was fabulous! The amount of food was overwhelming and no one left hungry!! I was going to put this up tomorrow since both of them are chefs and have Monday’s off, but at Amy’s request, it’s going up NOW! So enjoy!

I apologize in advance for the length of this slideshow, but I couldn’t narrow it down. I love these images. Love. Despite some interesting twists and turns and having to avoid some things, all was great in the end! And check out their video from C20 films!

*there were a TON of great vendors, once I get the full list from Megan, I’ll update
This post is long overdue but I know they were both off to many adventures since they got married! I didn’t want to publish it and then them miss it! Bryana and Charles were some of my favorite clients, I had been to 2 weddings with them since they booked me and it was a blast each time! These are some of my favorite photos ever from Cantigny, and that says a lot since I’m there a ton! They really trusted me to do whatever I wanted, even when I asked them to step REAL close to the fountain or something else equally silly, or the fact that they use the big spoon/little spoon terms
. That’s when the best stuff happens, when a couple comes in with little thought of what their photos will look like and let me do all the work, magic really does happen then! So without further ado and less gushing, their slideshow!
I cannot seriously wait to share this wedding with you! It was a blast with Lissette and Brett and their families! They did all the decoration themselves and it was amazing, Lissette described it as Mexico meets the country and it was but much better than I ever imagined! Not only that, despite it being insanely hot out, there was no complaining and they both looked fabulous! And they got married at one of my favorite place, the Byron Colby Barn! I just love that venue for intimate weddings!
Megan and Jake’s wedding was absolute perfection! It helped that she had some wonderful people on her side to make sure everything worked perfectly! It may have been warm and hot, but it didn’t rain as predicted, so we were very happy! It was just a wonderful wedding with Megan and Jake and their friends and family!

I rarely get asked about tanning, but it’s something that I deal with a lot! I think that people think that if they’re in a wedding, they should be tan. But I’m here as your photographer to squash those thoughts! Confession, I tanned for my wedding too, I thought that’s what you were supposed to do! I didn’t overdue it so I wasn’t glowing Kara but just not translucent Kara, there’s a difference! Here’s my rules about tanning:
1. If you’re normally tan during the months of your wedding but are unusually pale, add a bit of color but not too much. Your fiance can usually tell you if you’ve gone overboard! Remember, if you’re wearing white or ivory or any other light color, it will make you appear darker than you actually are, so you don’t have to tan too much.
2. Spray tans – try it out beforehand, many of these make you look orange and it’s not pretty in pictures. Make sure you get a professional application as well. If it’s hot, the color will run and get on your dress. Think about this beforehand as well, would you like to see tan marks on your dress? No? Then it’s ok to not tan!
3. If you’re not normally tan, DON’T. You won’t look like yourself on your wedding day, and really it’s about looking like the best version of yourself! Plus, you may tan too much or have funky lines, or anything else, it’s just best to not worry about it and not tan.
4. If you’re in a wedding, you don’t have to tan at all, and it’s probably preferred by the bride that you don’t show up looking like part of the Jersey Shore cast.
I know people are getting away from using the natural sun or tanning beds, but many chemical applications just don’t mimic the same results and often leave you looking like an oompa loompa, so the moral of the story: if you don’t want to tan, you don’t have to! It’s actually preferred by most photographers if you show up as you are and not try and be someone you’re not (but that’s kind of the idea anyway right?). So I’m here telling you that it’s ok not to tan, you absolutely don’t have to and shouldn’t if you don’t want to or aren’t normally tan!
I’m so very excited to bring you Brooke and Kevin’s wedding! I’ve known them for several years now and can’t believe it was FINALLY their wedding day! Despite being completely hot and humid, they were troopers. Brooke and I have gotten very close over the past couple years and we both work from home so often we have civilization-is-still-out-there lunches OR as our husbands would call them thank-goodness-you-showered-today lunches! Shooting this wedding was a breeze and a lot of fun because it was like hanging out with friends! There’s even a totally embarrassing photobooth series of us all, I was feeling feisty!
Brooke obsessed over details and it paid off! Her theme was modern, classic and preppy and she really paid close attention to it all! It was easy to photograph and of course, Brooke and Kevin were dream clients!
Erin and Ted got married at the Brookfield Zoo and it was so much fun! Who doesn’t love the zoo? Add in a wedding and you’re golden! They both are so much fun and overall happy and love each other a lot (as you’ll see). They both cracked us up all day long, from taunting a peacock or anything else, their day was perfect
Maureen and Gary are great people and great clients. Not only did they indulge me by going outside on a VERY cold day in April, they threw a great party and they were completely relaxed and themselves! When I had emailed Maureen earlier in the week, we had talked about rain locations and decided that if we needed to we’d just go to their favorite bar in Downers Grove, well it turned out to be REALLY cold, so we ended up at Emmett’s anyway! And I do love the photos from there! Maureen is also best friends with Lindsay Vito of Bella Flora (who has done the flowers for a few weddings I’ve shot!) and they’re always fabulous!
Mo and Gary were the perfect clients, they were themselves, they were in love and they trusted any of the crazy ideas that I had (and let me tell you, I have some crazy ideas). So without further ado, their slideshow!
